Project Life - Week 8

Welcome to Project Life 2018! If you are new to my blog, welcome! I hope you will stay a while. I'm Jessica, wife to Juan, mommy to 6 year old Maddie. I am also an electrical engineer by day and I am participating in Project Life, a different way to record our lives by taking one photo a day. This was inspired by the fabulous Becky Higgins.

I missed posting most of last year and am determined to do better this year!

And finally, my POTW (pictures of the week) -

Monday - Maddie lost yet another tooth today. This one was on her bottom left, position 2 and she lost it at Pier One Imports while we were looking at rugs and furniture. This is the 6th tooth she has lost! She has a pretty funny smile right now, but 3 of the teeth are already coming in so it won't be for too long.

Wednesday - As I was getting ready for work this morning, Maria said that Maddie felt really hot. She did feel hot and was complaining about her head and throat. I checked her temperature and it was 103.5 degrees. Since she's really never been sick, I was immediately concerned. I gave her some acetaminiphen and put her in a sitz bath. About 30 minutes later I took her to the ER to make sure it wasn't flu or strep. There's been a ton of that going around her school and class and there's been thousands of flu deaths this year; so I was extra sensitive. She tested negative for both flu and strep and they said it was probably just viral, give her alternating motrin and tylenol every 6 hours to reduce her fever and watch her. They gave her motrin when we arrived at 7:30am and by the time we left at about 9am she was already feeling better. Keeping her down and resting today was a chore. She didn't really have any other symptoms and felt pretty ok as long as she had medicine in her. This evening I put her to bed and then checked on her at about 10pm and she was soaked through with sweat. I changed her clothes and put her back in bed, she already felt cooler so I was hoping her fever broke.

Thursday - This morning Maddie woke up humming, jumped out of bed, made her bed, got dressed and was ready to start the day. She was fever free and hungry for food. I was hopeful that her fever broke last night and was recovered. I headed off to work without giving Maddie any medicine, but we kept her home from school. At about 11 Maria called and said Maddie was hot, she had broken the thermometer and wanted to know if she should give Maddie medicine. I came home at lunch to check on things. Maddie was definitely feeling poorly again, although she had cleaned up the scrap room all by herself and was pretty proud. She napped and her fever persisted at 102 through this evening. On a brighter note, our table and rug arrived today and I got to do a little redecorating of our entryway and living room.

Friday - Maddie was finally fever free all day. "Sitting here, in a box." Maddie took advantage of the huge box our  new entry table came in. She found my little box a few weeks ago that bounces and talks and was mimicking it, "excuse me, excuse me, can you let me out of here?"

Saturday - We went to see "Early Man" at the movies today. Also, Maddie and I finally removed the climbing men silhouette on our living room wall from her birthday party two years ago. This evening was the Moss Haven Elementary Auction. It was a crazy event and the neighborhood parents went all out. We arrived right when the doors opened at 7pm and split up, going right to the sign and gos. We didn't have an assigned table, so we were outside the main auction room for dinner. We ate quickly and left, but managed to spend a ton of money. It's easy to see why they raise six figures each year. It's great to have such an active PTA and neighborhood.

Sunday - Still decorating our living room today and we found a cool metal leave sculpture that goes perfect with our new room. Now we need to get it repainted!

Ski Vacation - Telluride 2017 Album

I finished our Telluride Ski Vacation album from our trip last year. Since we are headed to Steamboat in just a couple of weeks, I was excited to get last years wrapped up.  I used mainly fun winter kits.

And finally, my POTW (pictures of the week) -

Monday - Nana's birthday is today. Maddie made her a card (with pop dots and scrapbook stuff, just like Mama) and we gave Nana Riedel wine glasses that Daddy picked out for her. I'm taking Nana to the upcoming scrapbook weekend for her birthday as well. Happy Birthday Nana!

Tuesday - Maddie made her class Valentine's today. We planned on just making the Unicorns, but Maddie said she didn't think the boys would like the unicorns, so we made Whales too!

Wednesday - Valentine's Day. Daddy and I bought Maddie a huge flamingo stuffed animal. She saw it this weekend in Tulsa and went nuts begging for it. She was very excited to see it this morning waiting for her on the table with a couple of helium balloons. This afternoon was Maddie's school party. As party mom, I attended and led the party. We made glitter jars and played Valentine's Bingo. The kids all loved it and had a great time. After the party, I gave a card and chocolate truffles to Daddy; he said my gift was dinner this evening. Juan and I went to dinner at Bugatti Ristorante; they had a special Valentine's 3-course menu. Juan had salad, lamb chops and cheesecake, while I had mushroom soup, angel hair pasta with scallops, and their special "snowball" which is vanilla ice cream rolled in nuts, dipped in chocolate and then sprinkled with almonds. Everything was delicious and they gave me a special set of sugar cookies. Also today, Juan downloaded kid crosswords app for Maddie. She is amazing at it and learning to spell all sorts of words! Maddie told me that she didn't have excema, she had poison ivy! When I asked her how she knew that, she said the nurse told her. I called Nana, our resident ivy expert and she agreed - yep it's poison ivy, probably from the creek in the front that Maddie was picking up trash in last week with Daddy!

Thursday - This evening when I arrived home, Maddie said she had a surprise. She showed me her mouth - and she had lost yet another TOOTH, her top right tooth. I didn't even know that tooth was lose. When I checked her mouth, I saw that the top left tooth is already coming in.

Friday - The tooth fairy left Maddie $5 for her tooth last night and a letter! I'm pretty sure the tooth fairy didn't have any change. Also, Maddie left her a letter along with the tooth and wanted to know if she knew about her poison ivy.

Saturday - We started the day by taking Maddie's piggy bank money to the bank and depositing it in her savings account. Then we headed to Sleep Experts to buy a new bed with their "expert match" technology. $5000 later we left with a new bed to be delivered tomorrow. Our mattress is over 13 years old and we definitely needed a new one. Maddie thoroughly enjoyed testing out each mattress. Then we headed to Wal-Mart to let Maddie spend her Christmas and birthday gift cards. We got Life, Monopoly, and Rummikub. Maddie immediately wanted to play Rummikub and caught on pretty quickly. I think we have a new favorite family game!

Sunday - Maddie and I played Life today, she liked it a lot; but also wanted to play Rummikub again. This evening, Maddie was the one testing out our new bed. She loves the adjustable mattress and vibrating function and asked if we could get her a bed like this.

And finally, my POTW (pictures of the week) -

Monday - Just another manic Monday.

Tuesday - Today was Maddie's 100 days of school celebration. They had all sorts of activities planned for the day. They had a trail mix of 10 items of 10 (Maddie took Fruit Loops), they each completed a "Sea my 100 collection" (10 pieces of 10 different items glued to a jellyfish), and they were to dress up like they were 100 years old. Nana helped find the perfect outfit from local thrift stores and loaned her my great-grandmother's costume jewelry, a cane, and an old purse. We bought some hair rollers at the dollar store, and Maddie was adamant that we paint her hair white. We ended up with silver hair spray. She looked great. They also had an optional activity where they collect 100 of the same item and put it in a brown paper bag and wrote out 3 "clues" to help the class guess their items. Maddie chose puzzle pieces and wrote out her clues by herself. Unfortunately, I forgot to send the brown bag and clues list with her to school. Ms. Gillum posted this picture of the class sharing their mysteries. I saw it and realized Maddie did not have hers and her little face looks so sad in this picture. I was at work and completely broke down crying. I felt like such a terrible mother. It made me angry that work overshadowed things that are so important to me.

Thursday - Maddie lost another tooth this evening, her lower 2nd right one. The new tooth has been coming in for about 2-3 weeks and I was adamant she get that old one out or we needed to go to the dentist. She worked on it this evening and managed to rip it out.

Friday - Maddie was excited to see that the Tooth Fairy left her $2.50 and a letter this morning. After lunch with Daddy, Maddie and I headed to Tulsa this afternoon. I picked up Maddie at about noon so we would miss afternoon traffic. We arrived in Tulsa at around 5pm and Kayla and Maddie were super excited to see each other. The girls wanted to wear their matching pajamas and Aunt Angie made a special dessert for them after dinner.

Saturday - We took the girls to have "fairy" pictures taken at JCP. Trying to get them both to smile naturally was quite the effort. They also took "best friend" photos in their matching dresses and shoes. After an afternoon at the mall, we headed home where the girls talked us into playing "Pie Face". We all had a great time!
