Packing Up - New Layout LOAD #23

Yippee it's the weekend! It was a long week and I am very much looking forward to the weekend. I definitely didn't make 31 layouts in the January LOAD (Lay Out A Day) challenge over at Let's Scrap, but I did complete 23, way more than I would in a typical month. I finished one final layout this evening, #23.

I used the sketch below from Creative Scrappers #260.

I also played along with My Scraps & More - Throwback Thursday - 1-9-14. This challenge was to use at least a year old.  This is a photo from May 2012.

Materials used: paper - MME, Bo Bunny, and October Afternoon; rub-ons - Karen Foster; enamel dots - MME; twine - The Twinery; washi tape - MME; Thickers - Amy Tangerine; stamp - CTMH; ink - CTMH.

A House is Made of Walls... - New Layout LOAD #22

Hello my scrappy friends! This is the other side to my "welcome home" layout. Photos of our new home (circa May 2012). This is LOAD (Lay Out A Day) #22 over at Let's Scrap.

For this layout I played along with Challenge #6 over at 1-2-3 Get Scrappy! Here is the fun challenge board:
I used the center column - a key, a blue journaling block and blue washi tape, and a 5x7 photo of our new home. I used my large photo as a pocket for my journaling block. Here is photo of the blue journaling block/tag removed from the pocket:

I also played along with My Scraps & More - Tuesday Trigger 1-14-14, to create a page about something new (it must be an object). I created a page about our New House!

Finally, I played along with The Memory Nest - Crafty Creations Link Up:

Here are a couple of close-ups of my layout:

Welcome Home - New Layout LOAD #21

Happy Sunday! After church, lunch, and shopping for new clothes for Maddie; I finally have a second to post the layout I finished last night (yes, it's nap time...LOL).  This is a layout of Maddie the first time we entered our NEW house in May of 2012. She looked so small in our big living room and I was instantly struck by future visions of her running and playing in our new home. This layout is to document that moment. It is LOAD (Lay Out A Day) #21 over at Let's Scrap.

For this layout I played along with the sketch from the January C'est Magnifique sketch. The sketch instantly reminded me of a homey, warmth feel and I that was just what I wanted my page to be.

I also played along with Scrap Africa Challenge #25, use at least one recycled item. I am a sucker for all the fabulous packaging that is accompanying the wonderful trinkets of scrapbooking! I used the cardboard packaging from a Bo Bunny layered chipboard and misted/inked it to be the background behind my keys. I also used both the jute and the tag from a washi tape I had. I flipped the "paper tape" tag inside out, misted it, drug paper towels across the ink and used it for my key tag at the top.

A similar challenge over at LESSology - challenge 32 was to upcycle at least one item and incorporate a key. I have had these keys forever and was waiting for just the right page to use them. What could be more perfect than a layout of a new HOME?

Finally, I played along with My Scraps & More - Word up Wednesday 1-8-14 to use the word SLEEP. "Sleep Tight" was the perfect sub-title to my Welcome Home chipboard at the top.

Here are a couple of closeup photos:

Materials used: paper - Bo Bunny; layered chipboard - Bo Bunny; keys - Tim Holtz; ribbon - Jim Holtz and Maya Roads; paste - Studio 490; stickers - Colorbok; washi tape - MME, Tim Holtz; quickutz - Journal; paper tape - CTMH; metal hangers - CTMH; mini alphas - Basic Grey; ink - CTMH; mist - Maya Road & Mister Huey; stencil - studio 490; border punch - Fiskars.

School Photo - New Layout #20

One more layout to share. This one is Maddie's school photo from this year. Isn't she cute?  I am playing along with Let's Scrap LOAD (Lay Out A Day) and this is #20. Still behind, but catching up....I think.

I used this sketch from My Scraps & More #64:

I also played along with My Scraps & More - Free for All Friday 1-24-14. This challenge is to scrap photos that are school related. I used Maddie's school photo from this year.

Finally, I played along with Paper Issues - You are Just my Type challenge. I like to mix fonts on my pages and ampersands are the latest hot trend. I added both to my layout.

Materials Used: paper - MME; stickers - MME; chipboard - MME; journaling block - MME; brads - MME; stickers - MME; letter chpboard - Heidi Swapp; Quickutz; ink - CTMH; sticker dots - MME.

Old Friends New Journey - LOAD #18 & 19

Whoop whoop, thank goodness it's Friday and slated to be a BEAUTIFUL weekend 73 degrees on Sunday! Yippee.  I finished a couple of layouts this evening.  This one is of me and one of my besties, Miriam. This is LOAD (Lay Out A Day) over at Let's Scrap #18 and 19.  I also played along with the Southern Girls Challenge Blog - It's All New. This challenge is to show a celebration of all things new: new baby, newly weds, new pressies, or even new stash. My page celebrates my friends new journey across the country to start a new life. I am very excited for her, but very sad to see her go. She will be missed.

For the left side, I played along with My Scraps & More - Word up Wednesday 1-15-14. The word to use is Friends. I used the word in my title, "Old Friends, New Journey.

For the right side, I played along with My Scraps & More - Word up Wednesday 1-22-14. The word to use is Crazy. I used the word Crazy in the title - Crazy Happy Day.

Materials used: EmbellishKits.com; paper - Carta Bella; layered stickers - MME; stickers - MME and Carta Bella; twine - unknown; journaling block - Making Memories; ink - CTMH; cricut - Opposites Attract.

Our First Ice - New Layout LOAD #16 & 17

Happy Hump day! I finally caught up on all my POTD posts from 2013, now I just have to create the digital album. I was able to finally work on another layout for the January LOAD (Lay Out A Day) over at Let's Scrap. I have fallen behind, LOL! This is #16  & 17.

I created this page from one of my EmbellishKits.

For the right side, I played along with Sketches4All - Stacy H-W's Jan stash challenge. This challenge is to use clear bling or glitter. I used multiple snowflakes with clear bling in the middle.

For the left side, I played along with My Scraps & More - Mix It Up Monday 1-20-14, to use three sets of three. I used three pattern papers, three snowflakes, and three photos.  I also played along with Sketches4All - Winter Wonderland challenge.  This is an "anything goes" challenge as long as you use the Winter Wonderland theme AND is based on this gorgeous inspiration picture:

I was inspired by the "ice" crystals and woodsy pine pieces to select the photos of Maddie in the ice checking out all the frozen trees and sticks. I was also inspired to use the teal and browns on my page. Finally, I mimic'd the fireplace in the background with my framed photos and I mimic'd the teal runner with the teal number strip I used along the left hand side of the page.

Materials used:  paper - Carta Bella; snowflakes - Jolee's; twine - unknown; corrugated arrow - CTMH; ink - CTMH; stickers - MME and Carta Bella; layered stickers - MME; journaling block - Making Memories; corner rounder - Creative Memories.

Thanks for visiting!  Hopefully I will get one more layout completed this evening.  Wish me luck!

Project Life - Week 1

Welcome to Project Life 2014! If you are new to my blog, welcome! I hope you will stay a while. I'm Jessica, wife to Juan, mommy to 2 year old Maddie. I am also an electrical engineer by day and I am participating in Project Life, a different way to record our lives by taking one photo a day. This was inspired by the fabulous Becky Higgins who has put together a wonderful kit to make this challenge easier.

I am using the digital kit on shutterfly. This digital version is SUPER easy to use! See my completed pages for 2012 using the Shutterfly Cobalt kit HERE. I will hopefully be posting my 2013 pages soon.

And finally, my POTW (pictures of the week) -

Wednesday - The first day of a new year. Maddie is still opening the last of her presents from Christmas. Also Grandma and Weeto finally came over, so we exchanged presents with them. Grandma knitted Maddie the cutest headbands to keep her ears warm. We spent the day putting away all the Christmas stuff and Daddy took down the lights. Maddie found my guitar when I was cleaning out the coat closet and played it forever! Now that she knows where it is, I'm not sure how we are going to keep it away from her, LOL!

Thursday - The garbage disposal is not working, so Daddy was trying to fix it. Of course, Maddie wanted to help Daddy and grabbed her tools and her flashlight. Daddy found pieces of Quail bone inside, but couldn't get it to work again so we are going to have to install a new one.

Friday - Grandma and Grandpa got Maddie a Dora bouncy ball that needed to be inflated. Daddy got out the air pump today to inflate it and Maddie wanted to immediately help, of course. Maddie also found a new place to play, her clothes hamper. She has been diving into it head first and then getting stuck! She just loves to cram herself into tight locations.

Saturday - I wasn't feeling well today, but we still wanted to take Maddie to the Home Depot kids workshop. Today it was a little wooden calendar with adjustable blocks. Maddie did most of the hammering herself. She loves the kids workshops, but I think the popcorn is her favorite part!

Monday - Maddie found a sack from Central Market and found a perfect use for it!

Thanks for visiting, I am almost caught up!

Project Life - Week 52

Welcome to Project Life 2013!

I am using the digital kit on shutterfly (hopefully Olive once it has been released), find more info at http://www.beckyhiggins.com/blog. This digital version uses Shutterfly and is SUPER easy to use! See my completed pages for 2012 using the Shutterfly Cobalt kit HERE.

And finally, my POTW (pictures of the week) - the last for 2013 -WARNING PHOTO HEAVY:

Wednesday - Christmas Day, what a wonderful day. We were sad to miss a few family members, but we were thankful for the ones that did come by. Maddie was an absolute doll and spent the whole day playing and unwrapping presents. She wasn't in any hurry to tear through them and often paused for a couple of hours to play with a toy before asking for another. In fact, there were 2 or 3 presents that she never did open. It was fun having both her brother and sister together in one place. By the end of the day she was exhausted and fell asleep on her little chair. We are very very blessed! I also took lots of cute videos of the morning.  Here, here, and here.

Thursday - We took advantage of the sunny weather to show Tiffany the new Children's Garden at the Arboretum. We didn't know there was an entire other side that we had never explored. Maddie had a ball, as usual. We spent the day playing with Maddie and her new toys. She especially likes her bees and honeycomb with the little chopsticks. She can't quite manage the chopsticks yet, but I'm sure it won't be long before she masters it.

Friday - Maddie, Aunt Vanessa, Ashlyn and I took a rode trip to Oklahoma to the Scrappin' Pad. There we met up with Aunt Angie, Kayla, Aunt Shanny, Miss Sabrina, Lauren and Aunt Shanny's mom and sister. The girls were quite the handful today. It took almost 2 hours to get Maddie to nap and I was having a serious meltdown. Thankfully Aunt Shanny finally got her down. This evening we exchanged presents and then got the girls settled with popcorn and the movie Brave before bed. How cute are the all together? This will hopefully be a fantastic weekend!

Saturday - We painted the girls' finger nails. They were quite thrilled. It was the first time Maddie has ever had hers painted. She is also having a blast with the other girls. This morning I found her in Lauren's bed! Keeping these girls busy has been an all day job. They only stay occupied for about 10 minutes at a time. Aunt Shanny and Miss Carrie took pity on Aunt Angie and I and took the girls outside for a bit of running. The girls had a blast and we could hear them laughing. The girls have been great about sharing everything. Maddie was sharing her new Doodle with Lauren. They were working together beautifully. They all had a bit of a tumble party this evening on Aunt Vanessa! All the girls thought dog piling on her was just the best thing ever. There was so much laughing and giggling that you couldn't help but laugh! They are really having a fun time together.

Sunday - Our last day at the Scrappin' Pad. The other ladies would not agree to photos so we only got a group shot of the girls together and then a couple of Maddie and Ashlyn with Mrs. Sabrina. She told them to make silly faces and the last photo was the result. It was a long drive home and Maddie upchucked everywhere. She ate quite a bit of fruit and then we gave her apple juice. I typically cut her juice with water and didn't even think about it....so it was pure juice. She took one sip and guzzled the entire glass in about 10 seconds flat. About 30 minutes later, everything came right back up. Poor thing, we were on the highway and she's never pucked, so she was quite in shock. I pulled over and we were trying to clean up the sweet girl in 32 degree weather outside. She was shivering and crying and all we had were baby wipes. Once we got her in clean clothes with a blankie she was ok again. Rough end to a fun weekend.

Monday - Back from Oklahoma, Tiffany was reading books to Maddie.

Tuesday - Maddie spent the afternoon with Nana so Mommy and Daddy could celebrate New Year's Eve early. We saw "Wolf of Wallstreet" and then had dinner at Patrizios. It was a nice afternoon. We were all asleep by 10pm! Did you notice Maddie is wearing the red boa with her firefighter outfit? Silly goose.

It was a WONDERFUL and BLESSED year!  WELCOME 2014
