SYTYCS #17 - Happy Birthday

Another week has gone by in the SYTYCS challenge over at Colorful Creations.  This is week #17 and it is down to just 12 of us! Here is my submission this week:

This week the challenge was quite a bit different.

Use Your Words--NO PHOTO layout
Create a layout centered around a poem.  NO PHOTOS.  You must use the ENTIRE poem on your page.  My poem says: "The older they get, the more you hold on but before you know it the day is gone. Cherish each smile, each laugh, and each tear. You blink your eyes and one day becomes a year."
You must also have the following on your page:
  • Journaling (this does not include your poem) - my journaling is on the pink journaling block, I actually used it to hide a green flower that was not part of the color scheme.
  • Memorabilia – Do you have ticket stubs, maps, or newspaper clippings? Now is the time to use them on your layout. - I used all of Maddie's birthday cards from her 1st birthday as my memorabilia.
  • Create some sort of pocket to hold your memorabilia, place this on your layout. I created a pocket out of paper with grommets and twine to hold it together.
  • Twine-use some twine on your layout in some form or fashion - I used twine on the pocket.
  • Custom Embellishments – Make your own embellishments, ie flowers, washi tape, chipboard pieces, ATC card, etc….YOU MUST NAME your custom embellishment - The layered present is my custom embellishment. I cut it out, layered it, added stickles, and finally a couple of 3 dimensional stickers. I also added a banner with Happy Birthday on a flower and then a chipboard heart that I also stickled.
  • Color Combo: You must also use this color combo ( USE ALL the colors,  You may use white, black or kraft as your background) - the colors look a bit off in the photo - the blues are truly teal and the orange is really peach. The pinks show dark, but they are quite a bit lighter in reality and the background paper is a light tan that matches the lightest color in the combo.

I submitted the page above for the challenge, but I did go back and add a photo of Maddie.  Who could resist when I have such an amazing photo? This is the photo I sent out to everyone with her invitations.

I also played along with the Scrapbook Challenges - May Pinterest Challenge, take inspiration from the photo below.  I was inspired by the little packages to create this page from Maddie's birthday. I used the layering of presents to replicate those in the photo.

I'm also linking up with the "Serendipity" challenge over at Paper Issues. You have until May 4th to link up for this one.

Finally, I am playing along with Scrap your Story Challenge #9 Journaling.  The challenge is to journal at least two sentences.  I journaled two sentences and then also included a poem.

Here are a couple of closeups of my page:

Materials used:  paper - MME Fine and Dandy, grommets - unknown; present die - quickutz; banner - Martha Stewart; stickers - Martha Stewart; twine - MME; journaling block - K&Company; chipboard heart - Martha Stewart; stickles - Ranger.

Thanks for visiting!
