Happy Sunday! We spent the weekend in our garden planting and getting everything cleaned out in the yard for Spring. What a lovely time of year in Dallas. I made it to the next round in the SYTYCS (So You Think You Can Scrap) contest over at Colorful Creations. It down to 19 scrappers and this weeks challenge was very difficult. Here is my completed layout:
The requirements this week were to use the sketch below as well as the following:
4 Photos (can be colored or b&w) - I used 4
The requirements this week were to use the sketch below as well as the following:
4 Photos (can be colored or b&w) - I used 4
Black & White ONLY - Everything on the page is black and white only, no deviations.
Quilling - I have never quilled nor do I have any quilling tools, so I looked online and made the little monkey on the upper right corner of the photos. I used black and white cardstock to quill the monkey, added black DMC floss for his mouth and wiggly eyes.
Masking - I punched a shape from a Martha Stewart border punch and used that as a mask over which I daubbed white paint. I've never used this technique before, but I do like the results (it is the vertical black border strip between the large photo on the left and the smaller ones to the right).
Paint - I used white Making Memories paint for the masking technique used above.
Swirls - I used white cardstock vertically along the right and added a transparency with black swirls.
6 Brads - used on either end of each journaling line.
Handwritten Journaling - handwritten on each jounaling line.
Make your own layered 3d embellie - I made a little triangular date embellie. I took a piece of chipboard, covered it with a black and white washi tape, tied some B&W Sew each fancy floss to the top, added a date stamp with popdots, and finally buttons on top of that.
stay true to the sketch - I stayed very true to the sketch.
As I said, this week was very difficult.
I am also playing along with Scrappy Friends - Krisit B - March Challenge to use masking or stenciling. I used the Martha Stewart border punch as a mask and daubbed white paint around it.
Finally, I am playing along with Apron Strings - March Madness - Day 10. This challenge was to dust off punches and use them. I used a large Martha Stewart border punch for the masking on this layout.
Here are a couple of close-up pictures:
Although I competed the Colorful Creations challenge to only use black and white, I did go back and add a banana to my quilled monkey, who could resist? Here is the final layout, with an enlarge photo of the monkey.
