02.08.10 Back to "Cali"fornia

I traveled to California again today, Burbank this time to complete due dilligence on the West Hills Hospital 6E Renovation. Roger and I flew in late this evening. Our flight was delayed, so we did not arrive in California until about 11:30pm. I was shocked to see they still have Full-Service gas stations. Gas is sooo expensive in California; especially compared to $2.43 per gallon in Dallas.

02.07.10 Juan's Grandma Visits

Juan's grandmother is 83 years old and lives in Laredo, TX, on the Mexico border, with Juan's Aunt and Uncle. They were in Dallas visiting this weekend, so we went to breakfast at Juan's mother's house to see everyone.  Juan only gets to see his grandma about once a year or so. This was only the 2nd time I've met her.

02.07.10 Scrapbook Layouts

Just a couple of scrapbook layouts I completed this weekend.

02.06.10 Starbucks Ritual

Juan is completely addicted to Starbucks coffee, usually a Pike. He can't start the weekend without it, nor most weekday mornings. Even when we were on our honeymoon in Spain, he had to search out a Starbucks. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I am rather fond of their Soy Chai Tea Lattes. A tall is the most I will drink, but Juan gets the venti size for himself.

02.05.10 Jakob and the Marbles

We babysat Jakob for a couple of hours this evening so that Vanessa could study for her exam tomorrw. First, we headed across the street to the grassy area to let him wander. He immediately found a stick and was thrilled. Once the sun went down, we headed back inside where Jakob immediately began to point up to the top shelf where, he has learned, we keep Juan's marbles. He played with them for over an hour. He loves putting them all in the jar, one by one. He is so methodical and dedicated to completing his task. He is such a smart little boy.

02.04.10 Snoozing

I worked late this evening and didn't get home until after 10pm. I found my husband asleep on the couch in the living room, curled up with my blanket. This is his favorite spot to snooze!

02.03.10 DIFFA auction

Tonight was the DIFFA auction to raise money to fight AIDS in which Juan and a few co-workers designed a doghouse to auction. The 4 hour event was a fantastic affair with hundreds of different donated items and services to bid on. There was also and open bar and delicious food. Juan bid $400 on a Hotel ZaZa package that included the room, dinner for 2 at Dragonfly, and a couples massage. I bid $190 on a 5-piece handmade pillow set; but then Juan bid immediately after me on the exact same item for $210! I think he missed the point that we were together. We didn't win either, but it was a fun evening - especially for Juan. The doghouse sold for $600 and the entire team was thrilled to be a part of the event.

02.02.10 Shopping - Not my Forte

I have never enjoyed clothes shopping, hence the reason I only go about once a year...and only when I am in dire need of something. Tomorrow is the DIFFA auction and it is cocktail attire, so I begged my mom to go shopping with me after work. I always do my shopping with my mom. I need her opinion and assistance with the mounds of clothes I end up trying on. She is so great! After about 2-1/2 hours at both JCPennys and Sears we struck out. I did find a pair of slacks and a new suit, but no cocktail attire to be found....hmmpphh.

02.01.10 In the Air Again!

Both Juan and I had to travel again today for work. Juan headed North to Kansas City, KS, while I headed west to Los Angeles, CA. I spent seven hours in the air today for a 1 hour meeting! That is just crazy. I met with OSHPD, the state health department, for the West Hills project. It was a long day, but at least I won't miss half a work day traveling back tomorrow and I get to sleep in my own bed with my hubby!

01.31.10 New Chair Cover

My friend, Sarah, was looking for someone to sew her a new chair cover for her upstairs bedroom. I took Mom over to Sarah's house today to take a look at the design and see if it was something she could do. She also got a chance to see the house expansion they completed. Mom is not 100% sure she can recreate the chair cover without a pattern, but she took it home to study. Afterwards, Mom and I went to the Galleria to see the doghouses and do a bit of shopping. We followed that off with lunch at the Grand Lux and dessert at Sprinkles Cupcakes....YUM!
