Project Life - Week 45

Welcome to Project Life 2012! If you are new to my blog, welcome! I hope you will stay a while. I'm Jessica, wife to Juan, mommy to new baby Maddie. I am also an electrical engineer by day and I am participating in Project Life, a different way to record our lives by taking one photo a day. This was inspired by the fabulous Becky Higgins who has put together a wonderful kit to make this challenge easier.

I am using the digital Cobalt kit, find it at http://www.beckyhiggins.com/blog/2011/10/new-product-has-arrived/ This digital version uses Shutterfly and is SUPER easy to use! See my completed pages for 2012 at http://scraplifterdesigns.blogspot.com/p/project-life-layouts.html
And finally, my POTW (pictures of the week):

Sunday - We took Maddie to Moss Haven Elementary to play on their swingset. She LOVES the park and cries when we tell her its time to go home. She was all about eating the rocks, so it was more about keeping things out of her mouth then letting her play. She doesn't really understand the slides, she thinks she can walk up them. The elementary school has a mini farm and Maddie loves looking at all the colors and the tree stump reading area.

Tuesday - Today was voting day: President Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney for president. We both voted for President Barack and democratic in general. Maddie came along and watch the process.

Wednesday - Maddie found my headband and tried to put it on. She is very into brushing her hair right now, although she usually only brushes her neck. She likes to mimic everything we do.

Thursday - Today was my 37th birthday. I treated myself to Starbucks this morning with a Chai Latte and a pumpkin bread. This evening I went to dinner with my girlfriends: Abby, Janet, and Danna at Patrizio's. We had yummy pasta, fruity beverages, and lots of girly talk.

Friday - Juan and Maddie gave me my birthday party a day late, but it was exactly what I wanted: spellbinder dies and a gift card to Joann's.  I've been telling Juan that I wanted some doilies, so he bought me a couple of dies that he thought were doily shaped.

Saturday - We left Maddie with Nana this afternoon so we could go to the new James Bond movie. Maddie couldn't care less that we were leaving, but she was definitely happy when Daddy came back to get her.

Thank you for visiting!

Project Life - Week 44

And finally, my POTW (pictures of the week):

Sunday - Juan used my cricut and cut out a ton of bats and spiders.  The bats have been hanging out in our entryway for a couple of weeks, but today he moved them to the fronch porch and added the bats. Maddie loves them and blows on them to make them move.

Monday - Maddie in her EWOK hat. Juan bought her this last year and she is just now fitting into it. She thinks it's funny when Daddy wears it, so she will let us put it on her once in a while.

Wednesday - Nana came over to visit and see Maddie in her costume before heading off to my sisters to trick-or-treat with her kids. Maddie enjoyed reading books with Nana before costume time. Maddie didn't mind her costume at all. In fact, she even kept the hood on for most of the evening. We went out at about 6pm and let Maddie play in the front and hand out candy until about 7:30pm. We didn't have nearly as many trick-or-treaters as we had hoped, probably only 50 or so and only 10 or so while Maddie was still awake. She did love playing with her pot and spoons.

Thursday - Today Maddie still wanted to play with her pot and spoons. She kept crawling in the pot and then trying to put the lid on her head. Juan videoed her complete climbing into the pot and shoving her legs donw into it, but then realized he hadn't turned it on.

Friday - Nana taught Maddie what stickers are. This is the first time she is "playing stickers" which entails sticking stickers on a piece of paper. She was having a ball, but so serious about it.

Saturday - Mom and I took Maddie to Canton for First Monday. We didn't leave until almost 10am so we hit lots of traffic. We only stayed a couple of hours and Maddie was exhausted, but enjoyed being outside and seeing everything.

Thanks for visiting!

Project Life - Week 43

Welcome to Project Life 2012! If you are new to my blog, welcome! I hope you will stay a while. I'm Jessica, wife to Juan, mommy to new baby Maddie. I am also an electrical engineer by day and I am participating in Project Life, a different way to record our lives by taking one photo a day. And finally, my POTW (pictures of the week):

Sunday - Maddie loves the outdoors and is never too happy when Daddy is outside without her. Today she allowed him to be outside, but only because he was playinig with her through the screen. She loves giving kisses and a silly window doesn't stop her.

Monday - We were headed to Nana's when a beautiful full rainbow appeared over the highway. It was full from one end to the other.

Tuesday - The greenscape across the street from our house is beautiful right now. Maddie loves to watch the trees and birds from her window.

Wednesday - Maddie has figured out how to climb onto the window sill. Today she got all the way up and then started hollaring for us as she was scare to get down. She has no fear of getting down from our 3' tall bed, but the 6" window ledge is apparently terrifying.

Thursday - We had Maddie's pictures taken in her halloween costume. She was an adorable little lobster and had a ball playing with the pot and the wooden spoons. I couldn't believe that she didn't event try to take off the hood.

Friday - Today Juan brought Maddie to ccrd in her Halloween costume to be my prop (lobster in a pot) to my chef's outfit for our Halloween parade. She was terrified of "Cousin It" and cried everytime she saw her; but she LOVED the huge sock monkey and immediately tried to crawl into his lap.

Saturday - It was a gorgeous day to let Maddie play at the Arboretum. We put her in jeans, sat her in the middle of the pumpkins and let her lose! She LOVED it! She climbed the pumpkins, picked up the pumpkins, and tried to eat the pumpkins. She would have stayed all day if we had let her. She is such a little explorer. She cried when we picked her up to leave. Aunt Miri came with us. It was a fabulous fall day in Dallas to be outside.

Beach Baby - Challenge Layout

Happy Sunday my scrappy friends!  Didn't get a whole lot done last night, but I managed to finish another layout this morning. This is me and my baby in the ocean in Aruba. I have to give credit to my bestie, Shannon. She came up with most of little extra ideas for this one. I didn't even use a sketch, a first for me in almost a year!

I did play along with Yummy Scrap Colour Palette Challenge #7 over at Scrap Friends.
These colors were perfect for our ocean playdate in Aruba! The pink and the red were just enough pop to help the bright colors of my pictures.

I also played along with Colorful Creations - Say it with Words challenge this month "FUN". The little title block was perfect for my layout!

Here are a couple of close-ups:

Material Used: paper - American Crafts Shorline & Bazzill; cricut cartridge - Opposites Attract; thread - DMC floss; brads - CTMH; arrows Basic Grey Fact & Fiction; letter stickers - Basic Grey Serendipity & Shine On; Woven labels - BG Fact & Fiction; card and pocket - Pebbles; phase cards - Pebbles; ticket - BG Fact & Fiction; punch - Stampin UP.

Thanks for visiting me!

Alta Vista Chapel - Challenge Layout

We've been scrappin up a storm....and watching the K-state vs. Baylor game. Go Cats! I finished another Aruba layout, only 100 more to go; LOL. This is the little chapel we visited on our bus tour, built in 1952.

I used Let's Scrap sketch 3-10-11:

I also played along with this months Scrap Your Stash challenge - tear paper.  I used a 6" stack from Authentique and tore each edge.  Then I tore the cream background paper and inked everything. The cross was cut on my cricut with the Wedding cartridge and stamped the journaling block with a CTMH stamp.

Finally, I played along with this months Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge #60 - "Anything but a card with Ribbon." I wasn't planning on using ribbon, but when I saw this challenge I thought it would be the perfect addition to ground my group of photos.

Here are a couple of close ups:

Materials used: paper - Authentique; Bazzill; thickers - Dear Lizzy+American Crafts; stamp - CTMH; ink - CTMH; stick pins - jillibean soup and unknown; ribbon - unknown.

Hope you are having a scrappy weekend! It's beautiful here.

Our Summer Vacation - New Layout

Happy Friday!  My bestie, Shannon is here to visit! We spent the day with DD playing and shopping at the LSH.  Now baby is in bed and we are cropping away. I finished this layout that I have been glaring at for over a week. Sometimes they just don't come together easily for me. Another Aruba layout. I can't wait to be done with this album, LOL!

I used Let's Scrap sketch 9-5-12:

I also played along with Bird is the Word challenge: use the word Spring/Summer/Winter/Fall somewhere on your layout. I used "Summer" in the title.

Here are a couple of close-up pictures:

The World is Your Oyster - New Challenge Layout

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you had a scrappy weekend. We didn't do much, but I didn't seem to get much scrapping done either. Sort of a lazy weekend I guess. I did play around this afternoon in my scraproom and completed this layout.

It is another layout of Maddie on the beach in Aruba. I just love this picture of her looking out over the water.  I played along with Sketches with a Twist.  Their November challenge was to use the following sketch and a rubber stamp.  Here is the sketch, which I used for the right side of my layout:

I used two large stamps that I've had for ages. The starfish and the seashell. I used Making memories paint to stamp the images. I also used CTMH alpha stamps for the "the, is, and your" on the title.

For the left side I used the Once Upon a Sketch for November and rotated the photo.  I'm not so great at layering, a multitude of paper seashells and metal on top of burlap on top of painted stamps on pattern paper.  I overlapped the title over the photo and used burlap in lieu of honeycomb.  Here is the sketch:

Finally, I played along with Colorful Creations November Recipe challenge.  The challenge was to use at least two of the following techniques together: Stitching, distressing, dry embossing, wet embossing, or layering. I used stitching and layering for my two techniques. For the stitching, I cut a heart out on my cricut and then used it as a template for my stitching.

Here are a few closeup pictures:

Materials used:  Paper - Colorbok; floss - Bazzill; burlap - unknown; seashells - deluxcuts.com; metal shells - unknown; stamps - CTMH Chocolate Alphabet Small; ink - CTMH black; Quickutz - Washington; Cricut cartridge - Art Philosophy; metal frames - Making Memories.
