08.22.10 Tile for Mom

Mom decided a couple of weeks ago to redo her kitchen floor.  She found some linoleum that looked like tile at Home Depot, but it was going to cost her $600 and $400 to install, so she wanted to know if we would help her install it.  Juan and I convinced her to have tile installed instead by a tile guy that Juan knows.  She then decided to have both bathroom floors also replaced with tile.  Juan and I went with her today to Lowe's to help her get everything she needed for the tile guys, including (3) different tiles, mortar, half rounds, base boards, grout, etc.  It was a much bigger ordeal than I had expected and took us multiple trips to get it all to her house.  Hopefully it will be worth it all in the end.

08.21.10 Dallas Zoo Photography

Juan and I went to the Dallas Zoo today on a Photography hunt for the perfect photo for the Dallas Zoo photo contest.  We went in the 3 hottest hours of the day and I think both ended up with heat stroke.  This one is my favorite shot, although I don't think it is good enough to submit for the contest.

08.20.10 Summer Color

Juan took this photo at the Arboretum of a summer plant.  The plant is really this colorful.  I just love this photo!  Summer is almost over; I'm sad to see it go, but not the heat.

08.26.10 Number Challenge Scrapbook Page

Here's another challenge from over at Scrapbook Challenges.  This one's the "August by the Numbers Challenge."  The lucky number was 5 and the requirements were:
5 - photos
5 - colors (mine are red, brown, blue, green and white) your background cardstock if neutral doesn't count. :)
5 - brads, buttons or bling. only 5...all of one or a combo of them. I used 5 bling dots
5 - letter title
5 - bullet journaling

I went very outside my box on the title; but I'm glad I did.  These challenges are really inspiring me!

08.25.10 Color Challenge Scrapbook Page

This is the page I created for this week's "Color Challenge" over at scrapbook challenges.  It was my first scrapbook challenge and I'm happy with the results.  Yes, this is a page from Christmas 2007.... yes, I am that far behind; but here is one more completed layout!

As my sister pointed out, I forgot to say what the challenge was.  It was to use brown, green, and tan on at least 95% of your layout.

 

08.15.10 Juan teaches Jakob to Box

 

Mom kept Jakob last Sunday night and at about 7:30pm Juan said, let's go see Jakob.  Well who am I to resist, so we headed to Mom's.  We were only there about 30-45 minutes because we knew it was close to Jakob's bedtime; but it was still worth it.  He is getting really good at putting shapes into the shape box (what's that thing called?), and Juan decided he should learn to box.  It was pretty funny and Jakob was laughing hysterically.  I don't know if he understood what Juan was teaching him, because he just kept moving his fists in a circle and then beating his own chest like a gorilla.  I really love watching Juan play with him, but it does make me a little sad.  Jakob also ran up and launched himself at my body and hugged me tightly a couple of times; talk about the sweetest feeling in the world.

08.19.10 The Mercury - Restaurant Week

Our restaurant week excavaganza continues.  Tonight we invited Mom, Vanessa, and Adam to join us at the Mercury where Jeff is the somelier.  We had a ball and greatly enjoyed the wine/food pairings that Jeff had selected.  The peach cobbler for dessert with cinnamon ice cream was my favorite.

08.18.10 Dallas Triple-Digit Heat Streak Ends

This summer has been unusually miserable as the thermostats just continue to rise.  Today actually ended Dallas-Ft Worth's triple-digit heat streak at 18 days (tied for the seventh all-time spot).  The longest number of days in the triple-digits was actually 42 days from June 23-Aug. 3 in 1980.  This is the thermostat in Juan's car as proof of our latest misery.  I can't wait for fall and cooler days.

08.17.10 Abacus - Restaurant Week

Juan and I continued our restaurant week journey tonight at Abacus.  We had lobster shooters, scallops (Jessica), jumbalaya (Juan), pork chops, salmon, and dessert.  I actually ordered the pork chop and Juan ordered the salmon, but the salmon was so delicious and tender that Juan swapped with me.  He is so sweet.  He also thoroughly enjoyed the pre-dinner drinks!

08.16.10 Al Biernets - Restaurant Week

Mom, Juan and I started off restaurant week at Al Biernets tonight.  We had wine, corn chowder, filet, mashed potatoes, green beans, and an awesome chocolate molten lava cake for dessert.  We were so stuffed that we were ill.  It was all delicious!
